Happy to Translate – the power to overcome language barriers in the palm of your hand
Happy to Translate (HTT) is an innovative national initiative which helps to bridge the communication gap between organisations and service users who have little or no English.
Member organisations display the unique and easily recognisable logo to let those with language barriers know that they are happy to communicate with them and provide language assistance. Staff are trained to use HTT tools to identify a service user’s language and communicate with basic phrases. This ensures that members are able to provide an accessible service to all, irrespective of language barriers and make efficient use of professional language services such as interpretation (spoken) and translation (written).
HTT brings benefits to its members, service users and staff. Membership supports compliance with equality and diversity legislation by helping organisations to provide equal access to information and services. Displaying the logo means that those with little or no English will have the confidence to approach the organisation and enquire about its services, knowing that their language needs will be met. Staff trained in HTT procedures will have the skills to assist service users from different cultures, which increases confidence and improves customer service.

HTT currently has over eighty members throughout the UK. Members include housing associations, contractors, regulatory bodies like the Care Inspectorate, Scottish Housing Regulator and OSCR as well as the City of Edinburgh Council and the Scottish Parliament.
